Second Grade chose Sheriff Janis Mangum as our hometown hero for serving the citizens of Jackson County for over 35 years. 

Sheriff Mangum was elected to the office of Sheriff in 2012. At that time, she was the first female sheriff elected in Jackson County. 

Over the course of her career, Sheriff Mangum received many community service awards proving herself to be “A Sheriff for the People.” In 2023, Sheriff Mangum was recognized as the Georgia Sheriff of the Year.
